Mind the Gap (Between Movements): Awareness in Motion

The gap between movements is just as important as the movements themselves.

Think about the space between bending down to pick up a pen and standing back up—what’s going on in your body? Is there fluidity? Or are you rushing through the transition?

When you move with intention, you bridge the gap, making every movement more functional and efficient.

Here’s why you should mind the gap...

  • Awareness leads to better movement quality  The more present you are in the transition between positions, the smoother your body moves.

  • It prevents injury  Poor transitions can lead to misalignments and unnecessary strain. Even silly 'injuries' like a pain in your neck when drying your hair, can happen due to lack of awareness of your movemen

  • It builds muscle memory  If you practice fluid transitions, your body learns to move seamlessly and safely.

Next time you move from one posture to another, slow down and check in with your body. Notice the gap between each movement and choose to move with intention. Those small moments will add up to big changes.
