What Clients Aren’t Telling Me — And Why It Matters

My clients show up every week. They nod. They move. But underneath that polite Pilates poker face? There’s often a whole lot they’re not saying.
Here’s what might be unsaid:
“I’m afraid I look silly doing this.”
“My back hurts, but I don’t want to complain.”
“I have no idea what you mean by ‘activate my inner thighs.’”
“I’m trying to survive this class without crying about my day.”
Teachers aim to create a space where everyone feels seen; which means they’re more likely to speak up… or let their body do the talking.

Here's what I'm looking for:
Breathing
Body tension
Working on your own or looking around the room to understand the exercise
Sometimes I'll ask questions like, “How did that feel in your body?” or “What needs to be changed?”
Sometimes, the most powerful clue isn’t verbal—it’s demonstrated through movement.
I want people to feel like they can ask questions without fear or embarrassment. Mostly in my classes there's laughter and a lot of hard work. But there's also been tears of frustration, discomfort, rigidity and overwhelm.
Work at your own pace within your limits. Don't compare or compete with anyone else. Do what you can and start from where you are.
